Philemon Kiplimo, Brillian Kipkoech victorious at BAA Half Marathon

Kenyans Philemon Kiplimo and Brillian Kipkoech won the men’s and women’s races, respectively, Sunday in the 19th running of the BAA Half Marathon, which meandered through the city’s Emerald Necklace and Franklin Park.

Kiplimo crossed the finish line at White Stadium in 1 hour, 1 minute, 58 seconds, 10 seconds ahead of Tanzania’s Gabriel Geay. Mohamed Hrezi was the top American, finishing eighth in 1:03.44.

Defending champion Daniel Chebii did not race.

Kipkoech finished in a course-record time of 1:07.40, a full 1:18 ahead of Gotytom Gebreslase of Ethiopia. Gebreslase also placed second last year.

Brookline’s Laura Paulsen was the top American woman, finishing sixth in 1:18:47.

Defending champion Joan Chelimo did not participate.

Miguel Vergara won the men’s wheelchair race in 53:38, besting defending champion Tony Nogueira by two seconds.

Acton resident and Acton-Boxborough High School graduate Katrina Gerhard, 22, won the women’s wheelchair race in a course record 1:00.43.
