WESTWOOD – With one swift chop, Connor Deehan punched Westwood’s ticket to the sectional final.
The senior midfielder sent the Wolverines to their second MIAA Division 2 sectional final in four seasons with a darting goal in the second overtime to take down Walpole, 9-8.
With 1:34 left in the second overtime, on Westwood’s ninth shot of the extra frames, Deehan found paydirt, striking low to the far corner from 17 yards.
“That was amazing – everything a kid dreams about when they’re little, getting an overtime winner in the playoffs,” Deehan said.
“I don’t know that I’ve ever coached a kid with more self-confidence, and it is well-deserved,” Westwood coach Todd Zahurak said. “He is phenomenal player, and I think he’s the best midfielder to ever come through this program.”
Trailing almost the entire game, Westwood sent it to overtime after Ryan Healey took a feed from Connor Donohue and he fired top corner with 6.2 seconds left.
