    Jeanne Shaheen says hackers targeted her office

    US Senator Jeanne Shaheen, a Democrat from New Hampshire, said on CBS’ “Face the Nation” that her office had been the target of a hacking attempt.

    Shaheen said attacks have been widespread and have come against both parties.

    Russia is suspected of meddling in the 2016 election, and Democratic Senator Claire McCaskill of Missouri on Thursday said her office had been unsuccessfully attacked by Russian hackers in August 2017.


    “We’re hearing that this is widespread at — with political parties across the country, as well as with members of the Senate,” Shaheen said.

    She said her office had been targeted by phishing efforts against the social media accounts of staffers.

    Shaheen said authorities are looking into the attack.
