City announces road closings, parking restrictions on St. Patrick’s Day in South Boston

Boston police have announced street closings and parking restrictions in South Boston ahead of Sunday’s annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade and a road race sponsored by the local Boys & Girls Club.

The parade route will be closed to vehicles from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Boston police said in a statement Thursday.

People are advised to take public transportation to South Boston.

Traffic will also be delayed along the route of the South Boston Boys and Girls Club St. Patrick’s Day Road Race.

The race will begin at 11 a.m. on West Sixth Street at the Edgerley Family South Boston Boys & Girls Club. Racers will sprint down West Sixth Street toward Dorchester Street, and then they’ll turn right onto East Broadway. Runners will continue along East Broadway and go around the Farragut Statue at William J. Day Boulevard. They will turn back onto East and West Broadway until turning left onto E Street, and left again onto West Sixth Street, where the race will end at the club..

The parade will begin at 1 p.m. at the Broadway MBTA Station and move down West and East Broadway, turning right onto P Street. Then, the parade will turn right onto East Fourth Street, where it will continue until turning left onto K Street. The parade will turn left onto East Fifth Street and move towards G Street, where it will turn left. The parade will turn right onto Thomas Park and continue onto Telegraph Street. It will turn left onto Dorchester Street. It will continue on Dorchester Street until ending at Dorchester Avenue.

“Tow Zone No Stopping Boston Police Special Event Sunday” parking restrictions will be in effect at the following locations:

  Dorchester Avenue, Both sides, from Gillette Park to Old Colony Avenue, and Both sides, from Dorchester Street to Damrell Street

  A Street, Both sides, from Binford Street to West Second Street

  Binford Street, Both sides, from A Street heading northwest to end at 45 Binford St.

  West Broadway, Both sides, from Dorchester Avenue to Dorchester Street
