Ninety lucky people will be dying — or at least pretending to die — for a chance to win cash and park passes at Six Flags amusement parks throughout North America this weekend.

Six Flags New England in Agawam is one of the 15 Six Flags parks hosting the Coffin Challenge on Oct. 13 and 14, where six randomly chosen participants at each park will try to spend 30 consecutive hours lying in a 2-foot-by-7-foot coffin, according to the Six Flags Entertainment Corporation.

Those who manage to lie in the coffin for the full 30 hours will win $300 cash, two 2019 Gold Season park passes, two 2019 Dining Season park passes, two Fright Fest passes for haunted houses, and the coffin itself.

“That’s right — the handcrafted (slightly-used) coffin goes to the grand prize winner!” according to the Six Flags New England website.

Participants will have to stay in the coffin for the full duration of the challenge, with the exception of hourly six-minute bathroom breaks. During the 30 hours, Six Flags will provide the “deluxe” coffin, phone charging stations, and all the meals, which must be eaten within the coffin, according to a statement from the corporation.

To make matters more grim, the contestants will be subjected to random “terrifying visits by the Fright Fest Freaks,” according to the statement.

The Coffin Dwellers, as the park calls the participants, will be disqualified if they step out of the coffin for any reason other than for a designated bathroom break. All Dwellers who make it to the 30-hour mark will win the prizes, according to the website.

More than 700 people indicated on Facebook that they were interested in participating in the challenge at Six Flags New England. The deadline to sign up was Sunday, and the six Coffin Dwellers for the Agawam park were chosen Monday.
