Three Taunton men have been charged with animal cruelty after they allegedly recorded video of themselves blowing what’s believed to be marijuana smoke into a goat’s face, before sharing the clip of the incident online, according to Taunton police.
Lorenzo Kelley, 20; Nuno Camara, Jr., 18; and Jared Jorge, 21 — all of Taunton — each face one count of animal cruelty, police said in a statement.
On Tuesday, around 11 a.m., officers were alerted to a video that had been making the rounds on social media, which reportedly showed the suspects taking the goat out of its pen and putting a chain around the animal’s neck, police said. The suspects then allegedly brought the goat inside a home, where one of them sat on its back.
According to police, in the video, “two of the men can be seen blowing marijuana smoke in the animal’s face,” as the third person recorded the encounter.
“Throughout the video the men can be seen cheering and laughing at the alleged abuse of the animal,” police said.
After they became aware of the video, police immediately launched an investigation. They were able to quickly identify the suspects and find the goat, which was owned by one of the men’s relatives, police said.
The day after the video was recorded, police went to the goat owner’s home in Taunton and “positively identified the goat as the animal in the video.”
The goat was taken into custody by Animal Control officials and will stay with them until police conclude their investigation, according to a press release.
All three suspects were issued summonses to appear in Taunton District Court at a later date, police said. And the goat “is expected to be OK.”Steve Annear can be reached at email@example.com. Follow him on Twitter @steveannear.
