A 19-year-old man who called Wareham police Wednesday night to report he had been robbed at gunpoint is now facing charges himself, after police said they found marijuana and ammunition in his car.

Vaughn P. White, of Brockton, called police around 9:20 p.m. and officers who responded to the scene on Roundhill Boulevard said White claimed he and his friend had been held up by two men at gunpoint.

But White’s story had “multiple inconsistencies,” and following an on-scene investigation, officers found a large amount of marijuana and ammunition in his car, Wareham police said in a statement released Thursday morning.

White was charged with possession of marijuana and illegal possession of ammunition, police said. He is expected to be arraigned Thursday at Wareham District Court.

“The alleged robbery was not random and the investigation into this incident is on-going,” police said in the statement.
