A two-alarm house fire in Reading burned for about two hours before it was brought under control, according to fire officials.
Heavy fire at 24 Putnam Road was visible to Reading fire and police officers when they responded to the call at 9:18 p.m., fire officials said in a statement.
Residents of the home safely escaped. No injuries were reported, the statement said.
The fire was extinguished by 11:17 p.m., Reading police said in a tweet.
But Putnam Road was still closed to traffic shortly before midnight. A portion of Main Street, from Birchmeadow Drive to Forest Street, was reopened after being closed, the statement said.
Putnam Road remains closed to traffic. Main Street, between Birchmeadow Drive and Forest Street was temporarily shut down, but has since been reopened.
Fire crews from Stoneham, North Reading, Woburn, Melrose, Wilmington, and Wakefield also responded to the scene, the statement said.Debora Almeida can be reached at email@example.com.
