Easton firefighters were on their way to the hospital to transport a woman in labor Wednesday morning, but the baby couldn’t wait — the woman gave birth to the healthy newborn girl seconds after getting in the ambulance, officials said.
Fire officials responded to 12 Victory Lane at 8:43 a.m. to find the woman in labor, and they immediately guided her into the ambulance, according to a statement from the Easton Fire Department.
“Just as they placed the expectant mother inside the ambulance, the mother entered the final stages of labor,” the statement said.
Less than a minute later, the baby was born.
The mother and her newborn daughter were transported to Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton. Both are healthy and doing well, the statement said.
“I’m proud of these firefighters for their quick response and assistance in helping this woman deliver a healthy baby girl,” Fire Chief Kevin Partridge said in the statement. “We are glad to hear that both mom and baby are doing well!”
No further information about the mother or child was immediately available.Elise Takahama can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org. Follow her on Twitter @elisetakahama.
