Police recover stolen handgun, drugs in Holyoke apartment

Holyoke police and FBI officers arrested three suspects and recovered more than 200,000 grams of heroin and cocaine during a raid of a Holyoke apartment on Monday, officials said.

Police searched the second-floor apartment around 4 p.m. after an investigation led them to believe that it housed an illegal drug operation, officials said. Inside, they found a semi-automatic handgun that was reported stolen in Statesville, N.C. in 2015. Police also found about 200,000 grams of heroin, 3,900 grams of cocaine and more than $3,500.

The apartment is across the street from the Morgan Elementary School, police said.

Abimael Rivera, 24, of Springfield was arrested on multiple charges, including heroin and cocaine trafficking, illegal possession of a firearm and receiving stolen property. Both Adiel Velez, 25, of Holyoke, and Justine Walter, 27, were arrested on warrants.

All three suspects are scheduled to appear in Holyoke District Court on Tuesday.
