Teenage boy suffers hand laceration in Methuen after reaching into a snow blower

A teenage boy suffered a hand laceration after he got it stuck in a snow blower in Methuen on Tuesday afternoon, officials said.

The boy was helping clear the snow near 50 Brown St. at 4:24 p.m. when he sliced his hand, police Sergeant James Moore said. Officials believe the snow blower got stuck and the boy reached inside to clear it when the auger kicked back on, Moore said.

“This is why they say to use a long pole to start it back up,” he said.

Officials were still working on the roads Wednesday morning, Moore said. The main roads are open, but they’re still trying to clear some of the side roads, he said.

“They’re better now today now that the snow finally stopped,” he said. “This has been a long period of time for public works and police and fire.”
