North Brookfield man shot while shoveling snow

A 35-year-old North Brookfield man was shot and wounded while shoveling snow Jan. 5 after he spotted another person carrying a rifle, officials said Friday.

Police are asking the public to help identify the suspect, who was dressed in several layers of clothing, including a dark jacket and a full-face knit hat, the statement said.

The suspect ran from the scene after the shooting, police said.

The victim, who was not identified, was shoveling his driveway on Bigelow Street around 10 p.m. when he turned and briefly saw a person holding a rifle, police said in a statement posted to Facebook.
