    83-year-old man in critical condition after being struck in Back Bay intersection

    An 83-year-old man was in critical condition Friday night after being struck by a pick-up truck in a busy Back Bay intersection in late afternoon, Boston police said.

    The man was struck in a crosswalk at the intersection of Massachusetts Avenue and Newbury Street, Captain Robert Ciccolo said at the scene Friday evening.

    No charges have been filed in the incident, which remains under investigation, he said.

    A stretch of Massachusetts Avenue from Beacon Street to Newbury Street was closed to traffic heading into the city, but was reopened by about 7:30 p.m.

    A tow truck could be seen taking a white GMC truck away from the scene just before 7:30 p.m.

    The driver remained on the scene after the crash that happened at about 4 p.m., Boston police spokesman James Kenneally said.
