BOSTON — A man charged in the slayings of two engaged Boston doctors smiled and silently laughed at times during a court appearance.
The Boston Herald reports Bampumim Teixeira made the gestures Tuesday as defense attorney Steven Sack and prosecutors spoke to the judge in Suffolk Superior Court.
Sack says his client was ‘‘just nervous.’’
Prosecutors say Teixeira bound and stabbed 38-year-old Dr. Lina Bolanos and 49-year-old Dr. Richard Field in their luxury condominium in May. They say a carving knife was recovered from the home.
Teixeira was shot twice during a confrontation with police. Authorities say two fake guns were found in the building.
Prosecutors say Teixeira had no known personal relationship with the victims.
Teixeira has pleaded not guilty to charges including murder. He’s due back in court Sept. 22.
