2 arrested in brazen fatal Dorchester shooting

Two suspects have been charged with murder for the fatal shooting of a 20-year-old man in Dorchester in June, including one man who fled to Georgia after the brazen daytime slaying, police said.

Boston police said in a statement that Keith Cousins, 30, of Boston, was apprehended Friday in Marietta, Ga. He and Shaquille Brown, 22, of Mattapan, were both charged with murder for the June 28 slaying of Christopher Austin, who was gunned down just before 10 a.m. near 96 Ashmont St., the statement said.

Austin clung to life for several days at an area hospital before succumbing to his injuries.

Brown has been in custody since Tuesday on an unrelated matter, according to police.

Commissioner William B. Evans hailed the arrests in a department statement.

“I cannot commend my officers enough for the work they continue to do to solve these kinds of troubling cases,” Evans said. “I’ve always said that we never forget a victim, their families or their loved ones. I hope that as we continue to identify and arrest those responsible for these senseless crimes, we’ll be able to bring some measure of comfort to all those still left hurting.”

The suspects will be arraigned in Dorchester District Court at a later date.
