The VIP Lounge with Luis Vega

Actor Luis Vega loves everything about Puerto Rico, his go-to vacation destination. The 39-year-old actor, who is in Boston performing in “The Humans” at the Boch Center Shubert Theatre through March 25, said before the show’s opening that he was looking forward to exploring the city — “one of the great hotbeds of American history” and catching up with friends and “some newly discovered family,” thanks to “The Humans,” is a one-act play about a multi-generational family and the challenges they face. It was written by Stephen Karam and won the 2016 Tony Award for best play. Vega, who was born in New York City, was raised in Cherry Hill, N.J., and lived for a short time in Caguas, Puerto Rico. He lives in Brooklyn with his girlfriend, Emily Shain, and their cat, Earl. We caught up with Vega to talk about all things travel.

Favorite vacation destination? Puerto Rico. It’s the land of my forefathers. I lucked out, I know. It has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, rain forests, colonial Spanish architecture, caves, and a gorgeous lush mountain range that runs along its center.

Favorite food or drink while vacationing? Morir Soñando. It’s like a milkshake with orange juice and evaporated milk. [It] also has the most beautiful name ever — translates to “to die dreaming.”

Where would you like to travel to but haven’t? The Canary Islands. Just found out that my great-great-grandparents emigrated from there.

Aisle or window? Aisle. I drink a lot of coffee.

Favorite childhood travel memory? I loved going to New York City as a child. I was mesmerized by all the different kinds of people and the constant activity.

Guilty pleasure when traveling? Eating whatever, whenever. Good time to eat cake for breakfast.
