    UMass Amherst chef Tony Jung gets cooking on the ‘Today’ show

    Following the Princeton Review’s Monday announcement that UMass Amherst has the “Best Campus Food” for the third year in a row, the university’s chef Anthony “Tony” Jung joined Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb on the “Today” show in New York.

    Jung appeared during a trivia segment with Princeton Review editor in chief Robert Franek and two students, who went head-to-head with Gifford and Kotb in a friendly, buzzer-style competition. Trivia categories included Princeton’s top rankings for Most Beautiful Campus (Bucknell University) and Great Financial Aid (Vanderbilt University), among others.

    The Best Campus Food question saw Virginia Tech, Bowdoin College, and UMass Amherst facing off, and was accompanied by Jung serving food, including mushroom blended chicken tikka sliders, peach macarons, and sushi.

    While none of the contestants guessed correctly the first time, everyone seemed to enjoy the food, which was revealed to be from UMass when Jung took off his jacket, displaying a purple and gray UMass Amherst T-shirt. 

    Kotb’s team won the game 2-1, but both students earned $5,000 toward their education, courtesy of Stouffer’s.
