    NBC10 hires news director

The new news director at NBC10 has his work cut out for him.

The station, whose ratings have been mostly lackluster since NBC dumped WHDH-TV (Channel 7) to go its own way over a year ago, has hired broadcast veteran Ben Dobson in the hopes of bolstering viewership.

Dobson, a New England native, is taking over for Kenny Plotnik, who left as news director of the NBC affiliate in April in a parting that station executives insisted was “amicable” and unrelated to poor ratings.

Dobson, whose title will be vice president of news for NBC10, Telemundo Boston, and NECN, most recently worked at NBC Connecticut as managing editor from 2011 to 2014, and VP of news for the past two years. He’ll report to Mike St. Peter, NBC10 president and general manager.
