Grammy Award winner Angelique Kidjo has been named the 2018 Harvard University Jazz Master.
Kidjo, renowned both for her music and activism, performed with the Harvard Jazz Bands Friday at the Sanders Theatre.
Yosvany Terry and Mark Olson conducted the performance.
Kidjo, originally from Benin, has worked with UNICEF, the United Nations, and former first lady Michelle Obama in supporting girls education across the globe.
Kidjo was also part of a town hall at Harvard’s Kennedy School which focused on girls’ lives internationally called “Where the Girls Are: Arts activism around the globe.”Maddie Kilgannon can be reached at email@example.com.
