Yes, the folks at Fenway tried to land the Jay Z-Beyoncé tour, but were told it’s specially designed for larger-capacity football stadiums.
That’s why the hip-hop super couple won’t be performing in center field at Fenway this summer and instead will take the stage in one of the end zones at Gillette Stadium when their ‘‘On the Run II’’ tour pulls into town Aug. 5.
Beginning July 25 in Cleveland, Jay Z and Beyoncé will be performing in 21 North American cities, and all of the shows will be in football stadiums. We’re told that Fenway wanted to host Jay Z and Beyoncé, but the lyric little bandbox couldn’t accommodate the oversize spectacle. Tickets for their concert at the Patriots home field go on sale Monday.
Still, there’s plenty to spend your entertainment dollar on at Fenway. The ballpark has several concerts scheduled this summer, including Zac Brown Band June 14 and 15, Luke Bryan July 6, Foo Fighters July 21 and 22, Jimmy Buffett and Huey Lewis & the News Aug. 9, Billy Joel Aug. 10, Journey, Def Leppard, and Cheap Trick Aug. 11, and Pearl Jam Sept. 2 and 4.
