    Bird sightings on Cape Cod

    Recent bird sightings on Cape Cod (as of July 3) as reported to the Massachusetts Audubon Society.

    A tricolored heron continued at West Dennis Beach and an unseasonable snow goose continued in Hyannis.

    Another intensive survey of South Monomoy produced 4 blue-winged teal, 2 Northern shovelers, 147 gadwall, 10 Northern pintail, 23 green-winged teal, 2 ruddy ducks, an American bittern, a Northern harrier, 10 sora, 6 common gallinules, 22 American oystercatchers, 9 red knots, 15 piping plovers, 200 least terns, 15,000 common terns, 8 roseate terns, 24 Arctic terns, a willow flycatcher, and 6 saltmarsh sparrows.


    Other sightings around the Cape included a chuck-will’s-widow continuing at Elain Avenue in Falmouth, 2 blue grosbeaks at Crane WMA in Falmouth, a yellow-crowned night-heron in Barnstable Harbor, and 3 Caspian terns at Morris Island in Chatham.
