The NBC pilot based on the 2014 novel “Suspicion” by local author Joe Finder now has a lead actor.
Derek Luke, who also stars on “13 Reasons Why” on Netflix, will star as widower Danny Goodman. He innocently accepts a loan from his millionaire neighbor, and whoops — the guy is a money launderer for a drug cartel, and Danny is coerced to work as an informant for the FBI. Sounds like a smart twist on “Ozark.”
The pilot was created and written by Jessica Goldberg, who also created “The Path” on Hulu, and it will be directed by Brad Anderson of “Fringe.”
This isn’t the first Finder book to get adaptation attention. His “High Crime” was a 2002 movie starring Morgan Freeman, Ashley Judd, and Jim Caviezel, and his “Paranoia” was a 2013 movie staring Gary Oldman, Harrison Ford, and Liam Hemsworth.Matthew Gilbert can be reached at email@example.com.
