A new ‘Magnum P.I’ from the same old CBS

Jay Hernandez will pick up the lead of “Magnum P.I.” from Tom Selleck.

    Everything made will be remade.

And CBS is currently taking that very wise saying — which I just invented — very seriously. The network, currently home of “MacGyver,” S.W.A.T.,” and “Hawaii Five-O” reboots, is reviving “Murphy Brown” with Candice Bergen, and it has ordered pilots of “Cagney and Lacey” and “Magnum P.I.” with new casts.

No word yet on who’ll be taking over for Tyne Daly and Sharon Gless, but CBS did announce the name of the actor who’ll pick up the lead of “Magnum P.I.” from Tom Selleck: Jay Hernandez. Has he started growing a mustache yet, to play the Navy SEAL who becomes a private investigator? Is he shopping for Aloha shirts?

Hernandez has been in a number of films, including “Crazy/Beautiful,” “Bad Moms,” “Friday Night Lights,” and “Suicide Squad.” His TV work includes “Nashville,” “Scandal,” and “Six Degrees.”
