Roger Ailes movie stalls, but miniseries moves forward

The movie about Roger Ailes and Fox News starring John Lithgow and Nicole Kidman has stalled. But the Showtime miniseries about Ailes and Fox News is moving full steam ahead. It’s based on Gabriel Sherman’s book “The Loudest Voice in the Room” and his reporting for New York magazine about the sexual harassment that prompted the Ailes’s ouster at Fox News. Russell Crowe and Naomi Watts star as Ailes and Gretchen Carlson.

Seth MacFarlane has just signed onto the still untitled eight-episode drama. He will play Brian Lewis, the former Fox News PR chief and Ailes’s confidant. MacFarlane, the creator of “Family Guy” and a number of other Fox shows, got some attention in June when he said he was “embarrassed to work” for Fox after Fox News’ Tucker Carlson tweeted against mainstream news outlets.

Sienna Miller has also joined the cast of the Showtime project. playing former NBC news producer Elizabeth “Beth” Ailes, who married Roger in 1998, shortly after the founding of Fox News.
