After three years as managing director of Gloucester Stage Company, Jeff Zinn is moving on.

Replacing Zinn on an interim basis will be Christopher Griffith, Gloucester Stage’s marketing and development director.

Zinn, who was formerly the artistic director of Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theater, directed productions of Peter Sinn Nachtrieb’s “The Totalitarians’’ and the world premiere of Jim Frangione’s “Flight of the Monarch’’ at Gloucester Stage while running the theater. “The past three years have been incredibly rewarding, both personally and professionally,’’ he said in a statement, adding: “I look forward to seeing where the company goes from here and, perhaps, occasionally jumping back in as a freelancer.’’

Zinn’s departure on Sept. 30 will bring to an end his collaboration with artistic director Robert Walsh. In a statement, Walsh lauded Zinn for taking “a significant leadership role’’ in implementing comprehensive protocols at Gloucester Stage against sexual harassment. The company adopted those guidelines after a bombshell report in The New York Times late last year about allegations from nine women of sexual abuse, including rape in one instance, by Israel Horovitz, the playwright who cofounded and formerly headed Gloucester Stage as artistic director. The assaults allegedly took place over a period ranging from the mid-1980s to 2016.

Elizabeth Neumeier, president of the Gloucester Stage board of directors, said in a statement that the board “has been delighted’’ by Zinn’s collaboration with Walsh. In an e-mail to subscribers, Neumeier said that “to celebrate Jeff’s contributions to Gloucester Stage’’ there will be a performance this Sunday, Sept. 16, of “Rebel Voices: The Stories of Howard Zinn’s ‘A People’s History of the United States’, Alive on Stage!,’’ to be followed by a reception. Jeff Zinn is the son of the late Howard Zinn, a historian and social activist who taught at Boston University.
