A lot of Springsteen people saw their guy on Broadway for hundreds of dollars, but a lot more did not.
Have no fear, Bruce buffs, or should that be Spring-fiends. Netflix has announced it will be streaming a filmed version of “Springsteen on Broadway” beginning on Dec. 15. That day will mark Springsteen’s final show in his scheduled 236-performance run, which began last October.
The show, for which Springsteen won a Special Tony Award this year, is a solo acoustic performance by the 20-time Grammy winner, based on his 2016 memoir “Born to Run.” He sings songs from his catalog including “Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out” and “Brilliant Disguise,” he tells stories about his life, and his wife and bandmate, Patti Scialfa, makes an appearance.
The film is being produced by the team that put together the Broadway production, including Emmy-winning director-producer Thom Zimny and Springsteen manager Jon Landau.Matthew Gilbert can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org. Follow him on Twitter @MatthewGilbert.
